Kenpo Karate
More info on JKD will be added very soon
Don't ever underestimate your opponent
First a quick explanation of Kenpo.
Kenpo is firmly divided into many branches, and as such its techniques vary widely depending on the instructor. However, certain characteristics are common to nearly all forms of kenpo.
WHAT IS KENPO?
1. Kenpo Karate is a very recognizable style that incorporates extremely fast linear and circular strikes to vulnerable areas of the body in rapid succession with the intent to strike and cause damage or get the body to react to set up another attack and to overwhelm the attacker as fast as possible.
2,Kenpo is not about fighting, A Kenpo practitioner does not "feel out" his opponent. Once the person is attacked, his aim is to end the fight however he can as quickly and efficiently as possible.
3, Kenpo is set apart from many other martial arts by the sheer size of its curriculum. This varies of course from school to school and further by the different styles of Kenpo. Forms and defenses techniques against strikes, weapons, and grabs,Some with multiple variations are required to advance in rank.
4, Kenpo employs a belt ranking system, similar to other martial arts with certain requirements and proficiency expected for each belt advancement
5, Kenpo is almost exclusively a stand-up martial art, using various hand strikes, kicks, elbows, knees, throws, and in some cases joint locks.Although some styles still incorporate ground fighting skills.
I want to start off by welcoming you to my site, and I hope you get a better understanding about the different styles of Kenpo/Kempo. I chose the name Twisted Kenpo for a few reasons, one being that Kenpo Karate has a very twisted and confusing history, and after a technique in Kenpo karate called Twisted Twig, which was the first technique I had performed on me and made me understand how truly different this style was from anything I had seen before.
Since the day I first stepped on the mats as a young teenager I have been fascinated by Kenpo karate and everything surrounding it. My martial arts journey started when my father took me to my first Tae Kwon Do class and from that point I was hooked,I knew at that moment that Martial Arts was going to be a part of my life forever.
When a friend of mine who was also enrolled in a martial arts class invited me to come watch him at his Kenpo Karate school I jumped at he chance. When I walked into that school and seen the students attacking so fast and so powerful I already had the money out of my pocket and in my hand as I told the instructor I wanted to join. Kenpo Karate is now a major part of my life and I want to spread it to everyone so they can experience the joy, self respect, understanding and respect for others,Honor courage and so many more things it has giving me.
That's why I created this site to bring as much information and History together as possible into one place where we can discuss concepts and experiences, trade knowledge and help each other grow as martial artist without letting what branch we trained under get in our way. There are many offshoots of Kenpo so I cant cover them all but I will be discussing the main branches .There are many books on Kenpo styles and techniques and Ed parker wrote one of the most informing books on Martial Arts (Click this link to check it out on Amazon) Infinite Insights Into Kenpo It goes into pretty thorough philosophies about concepts on movement and I suggest anyone wanting to expand their knowledge of martial arts read this book.
